Different style in the aniamtion

Life study is learning the realism of nature. we pick the sprite of nature and put into the environment we design, and the environment design is the style we are talking about.

Overall can divide the style to THREE big part :

  • Realism
  • 50%R, 50%M
  • Modernism

Realism :
the most appealing indicator is the Disney render

Although is fully render, there still have the design in it. Using element to a leading mark to lead the audience to the fouse point. The character has a real human proportion, but have a cartoon face.

In the Realism style have some important point :
- Having detail. Although design and simplify already, we still can see the texture and nice small detail(like some grass)
- Look Realism. We can believe there are real human lives in it. Not so cartoony.
- In the right perspective
- soft shadow and lighting

50%R, 50%M :
To the half Realism and half Modernism. The Warner Bro cartoon represents it very well.
However, in the late Warner bro cartoon, it has more leading toward more UPA which is Modernism style.

In the half and half, some point should beware of.
- Push the angle. This is the biggest point in the Warner Bro. the element in the animation usually exaggerate the design, make it looks cartoonists.
- Look cartoonists, but still not really losing the realism
- Kind of in the perspective which is mean overall still can show the depth.
- Instead of the realism texture, sometimes will use the color line to make the texture.
- Having a sharp shadow. And an interesting point. in this specific style, the shadow would have a frame effect as the same effect as German expressionism.

Modernism :
I would day the UPA style can totally describe the Modernism style.

In the UPA, everything looks flat :
- Using a lot of line work to make the thing work
- Or using the clear sharp fill color to represent the form(with no line)
- Using Graphics texture (like the pattern, also flat)
- Usually, don't have the shadow
- Looks like the photo collect
- weird perspective, or can say no perspective. very flat
