How to explore the emotion and using in my animation

Some note for the video.
This video is talking about how to explore the emotion and using in my animation.

I think the biggest point and biggest challenge is to find a spontaneity action.
Spontaneity action will make people feel more genuine, fresher.

We need to find the Singularity acting which is :
It isn't wired and doesn't make sense to people
It is something simply shows out of common which is mean is unique and creative acting

The process when we making character animation :

1. familiar with my emotion, normalize them and bring to surface(the shot)

  • Let myself become the character
  • feel the as same as the character
  • feel it in your own body(emotion)

2. act the emotion when planning the shot(video reference, 2d planning) find the uniqueness
avoid cliche which is mean the acting every will do

  • shot the video reference, don't need to hit the beat in when you shot it. play the audio and feel it to act it out. do several times and find the unique part to move on the thumbnail.

3.apply to the 3D character

Emotion Practice

4 emotion can practice
Joy, sadness, anger, fear

1. How to normalize the emotion?
  • open emotion, expand the emotion to the body, let the emotion go through the body, and take the feel let the body move by itself
  • can do it when listening to music or watch movie

2. How to bring emotion when we animating?
  • listen to the audio in the shot, feel the emotion of the audio. like with we listen to music
  • When listening to the audio, listen to the whole content and later bring the feeling you feel into your shot

some question can help identify the emotion

-this audio reminds me to ____(your memory)
-this character remind me ____(who)
-what happening in this shot reminds me to ____(situation)

Comments

  1. Some question I asked the Author:

    Hi Jorge,
Really thank for making this video.
Really Really learn a lot in it.

    I have a question.
What if sometime you can't feel the emotion right through the audio, what would you do?

For example, you feel the shot is happy, and you do the happy acting as a reference.
But when you show you thumbnail or animation to people. Most of the people are feeling others emotions in the audio.

What would you do If it happens to you?

  2. His answer:

Hi Jack, I'm glad it helps.
    About your two questions:
    - If by some reason I don't feel an emotion when listening to an audio right away, I try to take it easy and spend more time listening to the audio and relax while listening to it - no need to act out. Just sit back and spend 20 minutes if necessary just listening and letting myself go with the audio. Close your eyes if necessary.
Another things that help a lot, is doing deep breathing. This tends to intensify the emotion you are feeling - but I never had to go this far. Usually after 5 to 10 min of deep listening you start to feel things.

    - About when other people feels different emotions : yes of course. That will happen ALWAYS in all shot. My answer for that is usually " who cares? " . You are the animator, and the artist , you are the one doing the shot - dont care about what others feels.
Though, if you are working in a studio and a director or supervisor feels something different than you and ask you to do something that creates an emotion different that what you have - that's a different story. Then my reccomendation to you is that you ask questions to them and direct notes, with drawings and try to capture their vision. But, this is a different approach than the method and is just simply following orders. My hope is that when I'm working through the method I got enough good ideas that makes my superiors to buy whatever I'm showing so I don't have to bend my creativity to their vision, so I'm always owning my own ideas. But sometimes that doesnt happen all the time...
    Hope that helps.
